Veteran Outreach

A core part of DSS’ DNA is our commitment to supporting Veterans, as well as our local community through volunteer work, are sponsorships and annual donations. We proudly aim to “serve those who have served” by supporting these organizations:

  • The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.

  • Post 268 is part of the American Legion, the nation’s largest wartime veterans organization devoted to serving veterans, youth, and the community.

  • The mission of the American Veterans Center and the World War II Veterans Committee is to preserve and promote the legacy and experiences of America's veterans and active duty service personnel from World War II through today.

  • We promote a structured, holistic approach for displaced veterans suffering from PTSD and other invisible disabilities, aiding their reintegration into family, society and economy.

  • Disabled American Veterans (DAV) was established to help veterans lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. DAV ensures veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them, acts as a political advocate of disabled veterans and educates the public about the needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.

  • The Veterans Institute Summit was created to inspire business professionals and organizations to hire, train and support military veterans and military spouses by presenting actionable insights from The Walt Disney Company's Heroes Work Here initiative. As a result of this initiative, more than 11,000 veterans have joined The Walt Disney Company since its launch in 2012—with measurable success, proving the value to both organizations and veterans.

  • Fisher House Foundation builds comfort homes where military & veteran families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital.

  • Supporting America's deployed military service members, to ensure they are not forgotten.

  • Heroes on the Water is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides no-cost therapeutic kayak fishing experiences to veterans, first-responders, active-duty military members and their families. Our volunteer-led chapters hold regularly scheduled events that improve lives while supporting our heroes.

  • NVSBC is a nationally recognized non-profit organization that provides Training, Networking, and Advocacy for Veteran small business entrepreneurs in the federal market to ensure they are Procurement Ready and have enhanced access to opportunities to start, operate, sustain, and grow competitive and strong businesses serving Federal agencies and other government contractors.

  • Providing mentorship to children of the fallen, honoring the sacrifice of those who've given their all for our freedom, and promoting patriotism and service in our communities since 2012.

  • Paralyzed Veterans of America, a congressionally chartered veterans service organization founded in 1946, has developed a unique expertise on a wide variety of issues involving the special needs of our members – veterans of the armed forces who have experienced spinal cord injury or dysfunction.

  • To strengthen the well-being of the people serving in America’s military and their families.

  • To foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts. To serve our veterans, the military and our communities. To advocate on behalf of all veterans.

  • VVA knows what returning veterans face. We have been through it before and we know that, despite all the rhetoric, returning veterans will face major problems. VVA will be here for as long as it takes to make sure that those who serve our country receive the care and respect they have earned.

  • Warfighter Made is committed to improving the mental health of military service members, veterans, and their families through recreational therapy, camaraderie therapy, S.T.E.M. educational youth programs, and family-oriented events that promote connection and healing.

  • Warriors Renewal Coalition’s mission is to serve Post 9/11 combat injured, or ill, service members, veterans and their families. We provide a Florida Rest and Reset experience in a stress-free environment.

  • The Women Veterans Interactive Foundation (WVIF) equips Women Veterans with knowledge and tools necessary to meet their physical, mental, and financial needs. We provide real solutions to real challenges, and we conduct important research to ensure that these solutions continually meet Women Veterans’ needs.

  • Wounded Veterans Relief Fund provides urgent financial assistance and critical dental care to Florida’s eligible wounded and disabled veterans.

  • Remember the fallen. Honor those who serve. Teach the next generation the value of freedom. Our volunteers are the beating heart of the program and work year-round to share this important mission and inspire others to join.

Community & Humanitarian Assistance

We live in a fully connected, global world that often requires humanitarian assistance to those in the most need. DSS proudly supports these organizations:

  • Serving Palm Beach County since 1961, the Science Center revolves around a simple premise: science is exciting! Our mission is to “Open Every Mind to Science” and we are delivering on this promise by providing schools, visitors and campers an entirely new set of science programming and tech ventures based on computer coding, robotics, and other leading-edge educational programs.

  • Solving humanitarian challenges in the midst of disaster.

    https://www.globalempowermentmission.org/

  • Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities.

  • The Palm Beach County Food Bank is committed to being a strong leader for the other stakeholders and organizations that join us in addressing the issues surrounding hunger in Palm Beach County. There is a collective resolve in working together to help children, families and seniors in our community.

  • Team Rubicon is a veteran-led humanitarian organization, built to serve global communities before, during, and after disasters and crises. For us, no operation is too large or small. We go where disaster strikes, helping the people that need us most in the moments they need us most.

  • Live music, chili, military fly overs, pipes and drums and honors for all of our veterans!

  • Since 9/11, we have been helping America’s heroes by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children and by building specially-adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. We are also committed to eradicating veteran homelessness and helping America to Never Forget September 11, 2001.

Environmental

According to a Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, coral reefs would decline by 70 to 90 percent if average global air temperatures warm by 2.7°F above pre-industrial values.

Being headquartered in Juno Beach, Florida, DSS is passionate about saving and protecting our oceans and our reefs. As such, we have been supporting:

  • The Ocean Rescue Alliance International is a marine conservation and restoration nonprofit organization that implements innovative techniques to restore marine environments. We use artificial structure to enhance marine environments, build marine habitat, conduct restoration, protect coast lines, and connect communities through art.

  • The 1000 Mermaids Artificial Reef Project & Gallery of 1000 Mermaids is a monumental public EcoArt project in the form of an artificial reef installation that will also serve as an underwater eco-friendly destination for tourism & research. This project is one of Ocean Rescue Alliance’s eco-art initiatives. The 1000 mermaids mission is to enhance marine habitats and expand fish habitat while providing enhanced creative, economic and educational opportunities for the benefit, education and enjoyment of the public. Mermaids have long been a symbol of humans’ connection to the ocean, this artificial reef models real people in the form of mermaids creating them into artificial reefs. These ocean friendly and artistically crafted reef modules allow their likeness to live forever on the sea floor off of the coast of Florida.
