Building a Solid Roadmap for VA Supply Chain Modernization

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is in the initial stages of developing a strategy to completely redesign and modernize its supply chain.

With currently no consistent, enterprise-wide supply chain at the VA, the agency has the opportunity to move away from the localization of its supply chain. As such, now is the ideal time to consider developing a strong roadmap for bringing this critical mission-focused effort to life.

What is needed is an overall acquisition strategy that focuses on a “System of Systems.” Simply copying a private sector solution and applying it to VA requirements is not an effective solution, and it will not encourage the adoption of new supply chain tools and capabilities.

The more effective approach would involve multiple vendor solutions being integrated into Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA), as well as other VA upstream and down-stream systems.

In addition, change management is the foundation for this VA supply chain modernization effort. As such, the right industry partners – who fully understand VA processes – can effectively shape this program.

To gain more insights into this vision, Gregory L. Giddens, former chief acquisition officer at the Department of Veterans Affairs; and David Whitmer, chief strategy officer at DSS, Inc., recently authored this Federal News Network article on the importance of supply chain modernization at the VA.

For more than 30 years, DSS, Inc. has been a trusted partner to the VA. In fact, every VA Medical Center is using at least nine DSS, Inc. solutions across clinical and business service lines.

As a solutions provider and a systems integrator, DSS, Inc. has the ability to build a solid roadmap for effective supply chain transformation and modernization. We already have the tools, systems and legacy knowledge to help bring the VA’s supply chain management efforts to life.
