History and Growth

1991: Three brothers in a Colorado basement bring their vision for the future of healthcare technology to life.

Even in 1991, it was clear to Mark, Ron, and Joe Byers that healthcare’s reliance on paper was unsustainable. They knew that digital records, accessible by computers, would forever revolutionize the industry, empowering providers and protecting patients.

1994: DSS is contracted by the West Palm Beach division of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Three years later, the Florida VA sought a technology solution to digitize mountains of paperwork. DSS delivered. This groundbreaking collaboration led to our company’s flagship product offering: electronic documentation software integrated seamlessly into the VA’s open source EHR, VistA.

1998-2018: From six employees to nearly 600.

For twenty years DSS enjoyed periods of enormous growth. From six employees in 1998 to 125 in 2008 – From 225 employees in 2010 to almost 600 in 2018, with offices throughout the country. Our ranks include a number of veterans and highly-qualified healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses and pharmacists.
