DSS, Inc. Announces CMMI Institute’s Capability Maturity Model Integration Appraisal

Document Storage Systems, Inc. (DSS, Inc.), a leading provider of health information technology (HIT) solutions for federal, private and public healthcare organizations, today announced that it has been appraised at level 3 of the CMMI Institute’s Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI)®. The appraisal was performed by The Process Group.

The CMMI was developed by the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University as a process improvement tool for projects, divisions or organizations. The DoD and U.S. Government helped develop the CMMI, which is a common requirement for DoD and U.S. Government software development contracts. The CMMI is a capacity improvement framework that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes that ultimately improve their performance.

The appraisal at maturity level 3 indicates that DSS, Inc. is performing at a “defined” level. At this level, processes are well characterized and understood, and are described in standards, procedures, tools, and methods. The organization’s set of standard processes, which is the basis for maturity level 3, is established and improved over time.

CMMI is just one methodology followed by DSS, Inc. in pursuit of constant process improvement. Others include:

  • Dev Ops for collaboration between development and operations teams.

  • Agile Development focusing on small, rapid releases.

  • Veteran-focused Integration Process (VIP) for more frequent delivery, tracking and monitoring of essential IT services for the VA.

  • Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC-Health IT 2015) Edition Health IT Module Certification to ensure our clients achieve interoperability, while meeting core criteria for Meaningful Use.

“We’re proud to have received our level 3 appraisal from the Process Group and the CMMI Institute,” said Mark Byers, CEO of DSS, Inc. “These types of certifications reinforce the legacy of our overall health IT solutions. For more than 25 years, DSS has been dedicated to leveraging new technologies and finding new ideal solutions that reduce care costs, streamline workflows, and provide a higher quality of care for Veterans.”
